All,

I put together a system using the Asus m5a97 r2.0 motherboard for a family member. I received a phone call stating that the machine stopped booting at the initial ASUS banner. The problem was fixed by unplugging the power cord from the machine for 5 minutes and booting again. The question is the indication of a BIOS or hardware or maybe it was just a fluke. I was able to get him up and running but I am trying to determine if there is a major problem in the weeds

Could have been just a random occurrence. If it starts happening more often, I'd be concerned.
How did it stop booting? Did it freeze? Or maybe get a BSOD?

Hmm, sounds like the BIOS failed to properly detect a device that was connected to the motherboard. It could be a USB stick or a HDD. If this starts happening more often you might also want to update the BIOS.

Thanks for your help, just need verification of what the solution should be. I just do not like just updating BIOS until I know that it will fix it. My plan is to figure out which BIOS is running on the machine and check against the available BIOS to see if there are any fixes which fix the problem. If you are not careful you can brick your system. If anyone is interested the system was setup for a family member who lives in the middle of nowhere and setup to respond to any potential problems. If anyone is interested I would be glad to talk what were my design points.
