R9 280X would be great. 3 GB Vram and can play any actual game 1080P with smooth FPS.
A R9 270X would allow you to play any game also, but it would not offer smooth FPS at ultra setting.
You could also consider GTX 760 or 770 but performance/$ is not as good for nvidia than for AMD GPU.
The best would be to give your budget.

yeah I agree with the guy above me. the 280x is nice and if you wan't nvidia the 770 is good and only a little more than the 280x. ( about 30-50 dollars on amazon depending on the model) http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinions/amd-radeon-r9-280x-vs-nvidia-geforce-gtx-770-which-is-fastest Every thing but bf4 the 770 runs a little bit better. 280x has mantle for bf4 so that's why it runs better.

It depends of you case airflow, if you are overclocking and if you are running on a beta driver or not. Sapphire Tri-X is arguably the best r9 280x you can get.
