Upgrade older 32bit system to 64bit - will this work?

Hello, I have this motherboard:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131274

Can it do 64bit? It can do 8G of memory, which seems odd if it can only do 34bit.

I found some CPUs which I think might work:

Celeron 450(2.2GHz,800 FSB,L2 512KB,LGA775,revA1) since bios 1002
Celeron Dual Core E1500(revM0,2.2GHz,800 FSB,L2: 512K) since bios 0402
Celeron Dual Core E3200(revR0,2.4GHz,800 FSB,L2: 1M) since bios 1301

And they're not too expensive, so it would be worth it-- if I saw an improvement.
My current CPU:

Your Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 is MUCH better than the cpus you listed and it can do 64-bit. There really isn't a meaningful cpu upgrade for your motherboard. You can install a 64-bit operating system with your current system, no problem. If you want additional performance you will need to upgrade the motherboard and cpu.

The Q9550 you currently have is a much more powerful CPU than any of the others you are considering. It supports 64bit as do all Intel processors since the latter Pentium 4 days. That being said LGA 775 is a dead, obsolete socket and you should not be spending money on trying to keep it current.

It didn't boot, but threw no error. It just stopped before grub would be displayed, with a blinking underscore character.
I will try again. It's possible my image was corrupt.
Thanks for all the replies!

I tried a re-installation, using 64bit Win7 (free 90 day trial/download I found). It worked great. I then installed 64bit Linux Mint, and they both worked, dual boot. I'm not sure what went wrong the first time. My initial attempt was to have Mint with 32bit XP. Perhaps something got confused and wrote bad info to grub. But all works quite well now.
