I am running a stock cooler on my cpu until my after market on comes in the mail and i want to use my computer until then. But my temps average at 80C for simple tasks. I looked into my BIOS and saw the v-core at 1.71 volts. I don't know a lot about it but if I lower that voltage manually then will my cpu run cooler? I ask because I heard z97 mobos have a default of v-core too high.

1.71v isn't your vcore, but the cpu input voltage. Do not mess with that value. For the cpu vcore, it should be between 1.1v and 1.2v on base clock speed (turbo enabled).
