Hope i am posting this in the right forum.
I have a wireless usb adapter. I dont quite understand how they work. I am wanting to sign up for high speed internet and am being asked to purchase a modem through the company. Could i use the usb adapter as a modem?

I should mention that you can connect your computer directly to the modem using an ethernet cable which will give you much faster and more reliable internet access.

Your wireless adapter is basically an antenna to allow you computer to access a wireless network, but there has to be a network available for it to work. The modem and wireless router (there are combination units available) are what enable you to create your own wireless network. If you have to buy one, rather than getting one with the account, I would look at buying it retail rather than through the provider, as you can probably get a higher quality unit for less money.
