Will the standard components in an alienware r4 bought in 2012 fit in this case? Also I am planning to upgrade to a gtx 690 will this fit in the case as well?

The switch should be fine. To get the 690 in there you might need to remove the middle drive bays. no problem.

Also you WILL need a new PSU for a gtx690.
