So I recently got the 4790k and have just started to work on overclocking it, and I'm running into some strange things. BTW I'm on the Asus z97i-PLUS board with 16gb trident-x mem - Cooling with the Noctua NH-U12S. CPU was running at 4.499 GHz out of the box.

Just for kicks I did a quick and dirty clock to 4.6 GHz at 1.15v - and to my surprise booted and passed a few quick benchmarks (Realbench, XTU). The problem is that the performance was much lower on these benchmarks than at stock, and significantly so. Never seen this before - bad stability? I just ran again at 4.5 GHz at adaptive vcore and slightly better, but still worse than stock. So far my max temps have been around 72 C. Any tips for where to go next?

P.S. The stock profile is 4488.5 MHz at 1.126v.

Might try with some additional vCore 1.18 or so just to see how it does
