I want to buy a desktop with a AMD A6-5200 processor then change the graphics card to a Radeon HD 5870. Will this computer support this card?

Depends on the PSU and if the motherboard has a PCI-e x16 slot. Check the needed wattage of the GPU and what the rated wattage is for the system. Most OEM systems tend to have weak PSU's, so it's quite possible you might have to replace the PSU as well.

Also instead of spending $200 on an old HD 5870, you can buy a R9 270x for cheaper, or a R9 280 for $20 more, which is much faster, newer, and has a lower TDP.

If you don't already have the card, you can get a GTX 750Ti, and probably use your old power supply.
They are less than $150

yes it will support ........... you may face a little bit of bottlenecking in games which requires cpu power but you can overclock your processor to avoid the bottlenecking ...
