Hello!
I saw that usb 3.1 will come out soon and I was wondering how will our current sata 3 standard with ssd pluged on it hadle the transfer rate of 10Gbit/s while its max speed is only 6Gbit/s so in theory that means that we lose 4Gbit/s of transfer speed. Will we get a new sata standard when usb 3.1 comes out, because of the current sata 3 speed being too slow to handle the speeds of 10Gbit/s?

:ouch::??::heink:

Solution
First of all, just because the USB bus can handle that speed doesn't mean the actual device can. For example, most USB2 drives maxed at 32MB/second due to the SATA to USB converter chip inside the external drive.

It's unlikely most USB3 devices will support speed much greater than 100MB/second because of the cost of these converter chips.

As for SATA, we already have faster than SATA 6gbps in the form of M.2 SSD which basically is connecting directly to the PCIe bus through its own on-board SATA controller which can exceed the current 6gbps speeds.

Or PCIe SSD cards that plug in like graphics cards in a similar fashion. These already exceed 2x the 6gbps bandwidth but the cost is high.
