I don't believe so.

Is there any reason you can't just get a cheap USB or PCIe WiFi card?

Well I found out yesterday you can, I had airplane modeon, one I disable that(My Phone been off for months, so no data) I turned om wifi, turned off data(I read somewhere to disable data), connected my phone via USB, pulled down nofication bar, clicked USB connected, Clicked on USB network Setting, then USB tethering, I did it was a rooted HTC One S, with sense 5.5, I dont think being rooted matter
