I am working on building a new future proof gaming PC. I am currently selling my old PC, so it might be a while til I can buy the parts so please no promos. I already own to EVGA 760s. I plan to run them in sli. I am also looking to get Windows 8.1, a network adapter, a GREAT cooling case (preferably the THOR v2), and 212 EVO cpu cooler (its suppose to be the best bang-for-the-buck cooler). So with this post my two questions are: 1. what build should I shoot for with a budget of $950 excluding GPUs? (seriously no more than $950) 2. AMD or Intel? I do ask please no fan-boyISM here. I know that more and more games are using more cores and the bang-for-the-buck on AMD is looking pretty good, but I prefer the motherboards that go with Intel. Again, please no fan boys.

If you go for the AMD build, do not get an FX-8350. The FX-8320 is literally the exact same CPU, just at a lower clock. Same cache, same cores, same FPUs, same everything. Just underclocked. On any decent motherboard you can easily put it...
dont want to start a flame war. if you look at amd fx line of cpu they would not be to bad if amd updated there 2 year old motherboard chipset. there very few mb with the 990fx that does pci 3.0 for the video card. on intel side they just drop the z97 chipset and the newer 100 chipset that will do ddr-4 will be dropping next year. if you got a z97 mb and intel cpu (haswell right now) you still be able to drop in a brodwell latter on if needed if the cpu is faster. also intel and other working on faster ssd speeds and next gen pci 4.0 spec.

Okay. To be honest I basically have no idea what smorizio said. I have done my research and at least what I have seen. AMD is a great bang-for-the-buck CPU. my two choices would be either the FX-8350 or the i5-4690k. I would go with the i5 easy if the price wasn't in consideration. this is a build I am looking to possibly build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wcNjRB. Is there a AMD build that could match this performance for cheaper? Also I already own two EVGA 760s, so to not confuse anyone.

Having said that, the i5-4690K would still be faster ofc.
