I have owned an Alienware X51 for about two years now and had no problems with it, but yesterday while I was watching a video it made and random buzzing noise and shut down. I immediately tried to turn it on again and the LED lights came on as usual but after a few seconds it shut down. Eventually I unplugged the power for a few seconds and it restarted as normal without a problem for the rest of the day.
Today I turned it on again but the same problem occurred. While playing a game it made the same buzzing sound and shut down again. This problem only happens after I shut down the computer, not after a restart or sleep. I suspect it may be due to the rather weak external 330 Watt power supply which might be dying. Should I try some sort of band aid fix before shelling out $150 on an overpriced PSU?
