I decided to buy a new computer and i got the specs for it from the place that's going to build it and they are

Black mid-tower case
Intel core i3-3220 3.3GHZ cpu
8 gb DDR3-1333 memory
Seagate 1tb hard drive
24x dvd +- RW
Windows 7 home edition x64

And all of that is about $650, and for some reason he listed the graphics card differently, it's a 750TI GTX and it's for $150.

So the total would be about $800, but i'm not so sure about the graphics card, i know that i should get amd or intel... I'd also rather have windows 7 than windows 8, and i know i want 64 bit so i think that one's good.

I think i'd rather build one, could i get a better one for cheaper if i did build it myself? I think that the most i would need to run is skyrim, but idk what else i'd be running but it's going to be mainly for gaming.

Solution

its looks good, you can drop the motherboard to an M5A97 R2.0 for the FX 6300
For $800 you could get - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/build-your-own-budget-gaming-pc,3780.html

or

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor ($144.99 @ NCIX US)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($84.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($52.91 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 270X 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card ($174.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower Case ($49.99 @ Micro Center)
Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($76.92 @ Amazon)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit) ($97.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $782.74

But they're probably charging $100 to build and test it.

Ok so definatly go with building my own then? This is my first time doing something like this so I don't understand some of what you're saying, but i'm pretty sure more cores = more power right?

I started building one on the pcpartpicker site, and i'm going to go look for that now so i can post it. :p

Ok so here is the one that I started on. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sb3GhM

Some of the spaces I haven't been able to fill out, and I kind of want to make it less expensive than it is now, so i'm willing to change the parts around. I'm also looking for a cheap optical drive that i can use to watch dvd and blu-ray movies, but i don't need to be able to write them. :S

If you're trying to keep things cheap o understand...but don't spend more on the case than the CPU! Lol.

I would go with an fx 6300 over the core 2 quad.
I would get an r9 280x. I would get a power supply at 600watts or so from antec or seasonic or xfx..

Ok, I updated it! I looked at the power supplies and found one that was 600w that matched the manufacturer, also, i don't think i can get the r9 280x because it's a bit out of my price range. I also changed the case and used your cpu suggestion though. :D

Oh, and here's the link again: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JByNYJ

this build is much better, still i would get 500W from a better brand like Seasonic, Antec or XFX.

I thought you said 600W? I changed it to an antec now. I also need to choose a motherboard but I have no idea which to choose. I'd also like to maybe change to some cheaper parts without sacrificing too much power. Thanks for all the help! :D

Sli is running two of the same graphics cards side by side. You need 990 to do that (not 970). You probably won't need this capability.

OC is OverClock . make the processor run a bit faster than normal, for more performance . 970 can overclock a bit and 990 can overclock more. Also more power phases means more over clock headroom .

Power supply must be high quality for OC and SLI as they both add extra stress to it
