I am a ranch hand and the owners said I could use there WiFi but the problem is that I live 250' from there back door and 250' to the left so its what you would say in a L shape and I am right on that short end of the L... Right behind there house they have phone hook upped in the barn and it is a clear shot to my trailer from the barn what would I use to get internet service to my Mac laptop ..
I really really need internet and I am on a VERY VERY tight budget!!!!
Thank You for your time and hopefully your answer??? :)
Thanks
Cat

This will be very hard to do on a tight budget. Do you know if you can get any signal at all from your trailer? If you can then you could try getting a Ubiquiti Nanostation Loco M2 and using it as an antenna to capture the signal. It would be best to mount it on the outside of your trailer and run an ethernet cable inside. Then you could hook it directly to your laptop. If you needed wireless in your trailer then you could put in a small AP that is hooked to the Nanostation. This will only work if you are getting some signal at your trailer. The Nanostation is directional and would need to be pointed at the house that has the Wifi.

Distances are extreme. You might check out this thread:

"No" to the Powerline - that's sometimes a solution in a house using the same electrical circuit. Your cabin is clearly not that.

Because of the distances, you'll require a repeater. The Ubiquiti NanoStation Loco M5 might be a solution - check around the web and read more about it.

Also, IF you can buy locally, this makes returns a lot easier. So does finding someone with local installation and setup experience - make them shoulder the 'burden of proof' rather than relying on marketing jazz. That will be more expensive, yes, but there's a greater certainty of performance.

(Er, he means "same circuit". From the circuit box. You might ask the ranch owners if they can cut off power to the trailer and still have power to their house. "YES" is the likely answer, so you're probably not on the same circuit. That, plus the distance, makes Powerlines a difficult option.)

However, one great thing about Powerline Kits - they either work within 5 minutes or they don't. I can plug in the Transmitter unit, then find a room or two away and plug in the Receiver unit - within 3-4 minutes, I'll see "All 3 Lights On" or I know I have to try a different wall socket or two, and keep testing.

By purchasing these locally, they're a quick drive back to return them for a refund. This might help with the 'funds' issues.

There are now Wireless Powerlines, too - otherwise, you'll need to pick up a Cat5 5e or Cat6 (whichever is available) that will be long enough to reach from the wall-socket to your favorite computer location).

If you cannot get signal at your trailer then something like this would be good, attached to the outside of the barn you mentioned, but it is pretty expensive:
