No overclocking is not something you have to do, but if you got a "K" processor you got the option to overclock, but make sure that your motherboard supports overclocking too. As you probably already know, overclocking your CPU will give out more heat and it will reduce its lifespan (this works the same way with other components too, not just the CPU). The higher you overclock the more heat will be produce so get a good heat sink or an AIO closed looped liquid cooler (or do your own custom loop). Is this what you're trying to find out?
