Hi, I have an emachines w3629 computer that I have been upgrading. So far I have upgraded the power supply, disk drive, graphics card, ram, added wifi card, and added hard drive (but is currently unplugged and unused). I have an ecs 945gct-m3, a pentium 4 631, (I know it sucks). But my problem is, I bought an evga gt 740 ftw (I know its not compatible with a cpu like that), and I put it in the system and it worked fine, obviously I haven't been able to see its full power, but it worked for now, and then I decided to return it to get an evga gtx 750 ti ftw which I haven't bought yet (I also know the cpu would bootleg this one too). So right now I don't have any graphics card except for an old 8400 gs, so I hooked the computer back up and nothing turns on, the fans spin up, and when I press the power button to turn it on the light doesn't come on. (this was without a graphics card). So I decided to put the 8400 gs in there and that doesn't work either. I just dont know why it worked fine with the gt 740, and now without it, it just wont turn on. Please help. This is really frustrating, so any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hello OP,

First, I'm sorry because I couldn't comprehend the last few words in your original post. Are you concluding that your computer works only when you have installed gt 740 in the slot?

Oddly enough, that's what it seems like. And I don't expect anyone to figure this out, this is just a really tough problem. But if you think you know whats wrong please tell me. This is extremely frustrating and I just can't seem to figure this out. Any help is much appreciated.

While having the card removed, did you switch initial display output to igfx?

It seems to me that evga gtx 750 to ftw unsupported by the motherboard, remove the graphics card first and restart the PC. Hopefully your PC will run properly.

I didn't have any displays plugged in, I was testing to see if the computer would at least turn on, (it makes a beep noise when it starts to indicate that it started up properly and it doesn't do it and the blue light wont come on.) So im not sure what this igfx thing will do, but I doubt it will help my computer start up at all, considering I can't even get to the bios.

Well, I appreciate all of the help guys, I ended up figuring out what the problem was. It was just a matter of unplugging the cpu dusting it off a bit (I think there was some intrusive thermal grease), and plugging it back in. I wish I would have thought of this before. Thanks guys, and have a nice day! :)
