Home network.

I am trying to get a Cisco switch connected to my wireless router. I attached laptop (static IP) to the switch (also static IP) via cable, same subnet, same gateway. I was able to connect to switch, configure it, give it a static IP, etc.

When I then connect the switch to the router, switch light for port blips, but then goes off. Tried multiple cables. It's not that.

The switch is talking to the router about something but then not connecting. Problem is, not sure what.

Not really sure where to start to diagnose. When through all the screens on the Cisco Switch config and everything looks good to me.

Other --unmanaged-- switches (multiple) connect to the router fine. This is the first managed switch I am adding to the network.

I've power cycled everything. Cannot seem to get it to work.

Any hints on what to try?

Which Cisco switch model? Most have a pretty good quick start guide.

Is the switch address in the router network range but outside of its DHCP range or given a reserved dynamic address in the router? Does the switch address show up in the router device list?

It's an ESW 540. Just found it after looking at the system logs. Some port guard was suspending the port after it was connected. Disabling it appears to have it up on the network now. Thanks.
