Intel Or AMD? Which do you prefer?

I used AMD processors for ten years (a total of seven of them). Two days ago I finally did my first Intel build with an i5-4970k (replacing an FX-6300). Its like night and day in 1920x1200 gaming - mostly RPGs and MMOs. At stock speeds the i5 easily beats the FX-6300 @ 4.5 Ghz. Much smoother gameplay with less hitching and stuttering. Can't believe I waited so long to switch.

Intel is better for everything except when you edit a lot of videos. Then you could save some cash going with AMD. Intel also has a better upgrade path. start with an i3 on a budget or that overclock enabled pentium and eventually down the line buy a 4770k cheaper. I owned a 8320 at 4.8 and with most games it would be between 99 and 50% gpu load using gpuz. It was always closer to the 50's. I eventually upgraded to intel and all games I play are pings at 99% gpu under load. I use a 280x from gigibyte. So there you have it.

If you plan on using your computer for more than 2 years, Intel will save you your money difference in power costs assuming about $0.10/kwh and a summer where you need to use AC. But AMD is good and cheap to build a computer.

You also need to be careful with Intel as a lot of their products are targeting people with a higher budget, so it's easy to "waste" money getting features you don't need. AMD is strait forward and gives you everything up-front, like ECC. I hate how Intel purposefully fragments their features.

Am I not aloud to ask the community on what they prefer of a CPU / CPU company? Last time I checked im aloud and I don't see anyone but you complaining on how I asked a simple question. You could have just said ex. I like Intel better because... not go check another thread... seriously people these days

It's flame bait, and an utterly pointless question. Like I said instead of reinventing the wheel for the one millionth time, take a clue from the other 999,999 reinventions. Now if only we could get a hundred other users like yourself all asking the same, irrelevant, worn out question. Yes, let's do that.

It's only flamebait when somebody takes it badly. If nobody gets snippy, there's no problem. Let's not cause the problem, eh?
