CPU Fan Error - Asus Maximus Hero & H100i

Hi Everyone,

I have recently finished my new build and i have an error on bootup saying 'cpu fan error'

It's the Corsair H100i liquid cooler and the fans are spinning and making noise so they are running but my system or the Corsair Link software doesn't detect them.

The pump is powered by a SATA connector to the psu and the 2 fans are both connected to the pump (as instructed in the book) and then the usb connector is connected to one of the headers on the motherboard.

The cpu is also idling at about 40 degrees Celsius.

Any advice is appriecated.

it gives you a error because there is no fan connected on the header on the motherboard for the cpu.
you can disable this in the bios.
  2. on asus mb there two cpu fan header make sure your not on the cpu aux header.
  3. Make sure its connected to the CPU_FAN conection and that is connected to the Power Supply, Also see if everything is connected. That happened to me also with a H80i and i just connected to power and done.

So I should uplug it from the corsair pump and put it in the mobo instead? Will I be able to set my fan speeds from the bios?

You need to connect the fans in a cable that will go to the pump and then a Mini USB that has 2 cables, SATA for the power supply, check if its connected and other one that you need to connect where it says CPU_FAN, make sure it's connected there, not in case_fan, and it should work, if it doesn't work, try to clean all the connections. Hope this works to you.
  6. I got the same problem.

How can you connect it to the CPU fan, which is 4 pin, and the stick is only a 3 pin?
  7. Hey, I had this exact same problem and dicked with finding a solution for a bit, what i did that worked was, In the Bios, go to monitoring and find the CPU FAN setting. Instead of AUTO switch it to PWM, meaning force PWM mode, and i set the minimum to Speed to 200RPM. No error and now Corsair Link sees the fan speed and all is happy. Just to note, I'm using the Asus 97 pro wifi ac, and the corsair h100i gtx.
  8. ..or you can just tell the system to ignore these checks by going to the fan speed monitor and ignore everything. (but you can probably just ignore the CPU fan speed since that's what the mobo's been pesting)

On mine, there must be something wrong with the motherboand because i tried unplugging everything and its still giving me this error. I even updated the bios to the most recent version and nothing happened. I tried googling all the possible solution like turning off the QFan, lowering the RPM, switching from Auto to off, etc. and still the same problem.

Just give it a shot and see it may work on yours.
