Hi,

This is a strange graphics issue, and I don't quite know what the problem is.

It's not due to faulty hardware or anything, but it's got to do with some kind of setting in my Nvidia control panel.

Whenever I am playing certain games (Minecraft, CS:GO, The Sims 2, etc) if you move really fast or scroll really fast you will notice this effect.

It's hard to describe, really. Like, for instance in the Sims, all the black grid lines become very dark, and you can see each line very vividly. If you're standing still it looks like a dull line but it becomes very noticeable when you are scrolling fast.

In CS:GO, I noticed this happens to textures with lines. Again, very hard to describe in words, but it seems to make the lines more visible when moving, and sometimes it distorts the color. I saw this in Minecraft, when you moved around a block you might see it turn slightly red or blue for a second then it'll look perfectly fine when standing still.

Since this is so hard for me to describe, I have been having trouble searching for it on the internet. I tried turning off antialiasing features and filtering things to application controlled but nothing seems to be working. What could it be?

PS. My GPU is a GTX 780.

omg thank you soo much, i was about to replace my graphics card because i thought it was defective! turns ouit it was the tracefree thing
Improper seating of the card, maybe. Make sure to drop the card into the slot at once. Don't push one end of the card first and the other later. After performing it, go to BIOS and load optimized defaults and then turn off on board graphics.

Next, uninstall the current display driver and install a fresh one.

And what is the brand (with watts) of your PSU?

Hmm,

I have an XFX Pro 1000W LTD Black Edition, very nice power supply (could have gone with the ~1200W version, but too much power for one card)

It's a pretty good power supply. Umm, regarding improper seating I really, really don't think that is the issue.

But, I have messed with the NVidia control panel. The "color distortion" thing is a little hard to describe. All colors are produced correctly, everything looks beautiful but if you mess with some of the global settings set by the control panel for your graphics card it can produce some weird effects like that. I used to have a 9500 GT and it happened then, but I have a ton of new settings in this high end card. xD

Hmm, well I did restore default and it didn't change it, unfortunately.

I guess my theory was incorrect. :(

Well, I was playing the Sims 2. When scrolling (right click) really fast, suppose you are looking at the white dashes on the road. When you move fast, you'll see some sort of "shadow", it's literally a black shadow where the road was maybe one tic before. The shape of the shadow is consistent with the shape of the dash. When you are looking at actual black lines, it makes it look thicker and stuff. In fact, it makes the grass look really good when you are moving the screen, but looks very dull when there is no movement.

One other thing, it does seem to go above my refresh rate. In all 3 games I was running in borderless windowed mode and my FPS was not capped, so it would go over the refresh rate even though it was triple buffered vertical sync.

EDIT: Scrolling in the neighborhood view. When you're moving around, everything looks more pronounced - certain colors pop up that you couldn't clearly see before, trees look almost 3 dimensional, and overall just more pronounced edges and colors.

Hey, I am replying to this thread to post that I did in fact find the problem. It came from my monitor's trace-free setting. It was at 100%. I had no idea what it did, so I set it all the way, and apparently it makes everything really "vivid" when moving really fast, by basically giving an "after-image" of the previous frame, which somehow makes lines look slightly more pronounced, but of course it also causes colors that don't belong there to appear sometimes.

I made an account just to tell you, You saved my GTX1070. I reset my Monitor back to default and it fixed it. Sounds like the same problem as mine like when I would move my POV quick i could see Red Green And Blue Pixel Like streaks only in really dark blacks. I was living with this problem for 6 months thinking the gpu was on its way out. THANK THE LORD FOR FORUM POST FROM 6 YEARS AGO YOU ARE A GOD SEND
