So I have an SSD with windows 7 installed, and the rest of my files on a 2TB HDD. I want to re-install windows 7 on the SSD. Would I be able to without losing my files or causing problems with the programs already installed?

Thanks!

I go to the trouble to zero hard drives, in your case the SSD is handled differently, and I reinstall everything as follows:

Back up everything from the SSD to the hard drive, such as favorites, game files that are stored on the SSD [MS FSX for example], downloads and anything else you put on C drive and want to keep.

You should have made a 150MB [or whatever size you need] as the first partition of your 2GB HD for games and frequently used programs. This is much faster to defrag than the full 2GB and the outer platters respond very quickly. Most people do not know this and it is to late for you, however, it is something to remember for the future.

Enter BIOS, make your optical drive the boot drive. Place the Windows disk into your optical drive and start the computer [soft boot from BIOS will work]. At the early phase of installing Windows, remove all partitions on the SSD, then add them as required. This will erase everything Windows can see and it will "think" you are installing to a new drive.

Remember to re-enter BIOS and make your SSD the boot drive after installing Windows.

Reinstall all drivers and programs, then move what you saved on the HHD to the SSD.
