There are no fanless 4k video cards. The quietest actually used solution seems to be a Mac Pro. The ASUS Z97-Deluxe motherboard states that it supports 4k monitors as follows:
- Supports DisplayPort with max. resolution 4096 x 2160 @ 24 Hz / 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz
- Supports Mini DisplayPort with max. resolution 4096 x 2160 @ 24 Hz / 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz
Maximum shared memory of 512 MB

The 512Mb max shared memory makes me wary (not enough to run a 4K display). Basically the specs say you can run two 4k displays just from the motherboard graphics and I am wondering if anybody has actually done this and whether there are significant limitations.
Clearly that is unlikely to be good enough for gaming but is it good enough for business usage?
Cheers, Christoph

Solution
It will be able to "run" one 4k monitor. By that I mean it will turn on and accept the signal, it wont be usable.
If you want 4k you are going to need at LEAST a 290x, 2 in Xfire if you plan to game, and Quadfire if you game with 2.

You are right. I checked with ASUS - you need a graphic card for a 4k monitor - the motherboard isn't enough. No fanless PC with a 4k monitor yet. Has to be a Mac Pro instead - not silent but quiet enough.
