Hi everyone!

I've been trying to diagnose my computer problems for quite a while now, and I've stumbled upon a thread here that gave instructions to test my PSU. I've been thinking my PSU has been going for a while, and now I'm able to test it. I followed the instructions using HWMonitor and Prime95 with my results below.

The original poster said that if the +12V dipped below 11.4 then you may have a problem. Mine is much lower. I know nothing about these things, but might it be worth it to replace the PSU?

_______________Min________Max
CPU VCORE_____0.912_____1.424
VIN1___________1.456_____1.472
+3.3___________1.456______1.472
+5____________ 4.892______4.946
+12___________11.072_____ 12.032
-12___________ -16.064_____-4.544
+5V VCCH______ 3.575______3.575
VBAT__________ 3.120_____ 3.120
CPU __________ 0.912 ______1.424

Thanks in advance!

DON'T USE SOFTWARE VOLTAGE READINGS!!!

I don't know how many times this has to be said. The software is interpreting the results from a chip on your board, except the software isn't working from the datasheet, it is guessing what the value means based on conventions.

You're readings are all invalidated by the listing of your 3.3V rail as 1.456V, it obviously isn't reading your voltages properly so you can't trust any of the other readings.

If you want to get accurate voltage readings get a DMM and back probe your ATX connector while you test, thats the only way to know you're getting true readings.

Normally I put in a "verify with digital multimeter" caveat in, but I guess I forgot on this one. My bad :(

Let me revise my statement - If you confirm with a multimeter that your outputs with load are more than 5% off spec +/-, I would recommend replacing the PSU.

It's a 600 Watts - XtremeGear Power Supply - SLI/CrossFireX and it's 3 years old.

As far as a DMM goes, I'm pretty sure I can get my hands on one, but if not where do I buy those? Hardware stores? Is there a good "how-to" video or steps explaining how to back probe the ATX connector?

Thanks everyone!
