I just finished putting together my computer last night, when i tried to install windows 8.1 it would just show me the windows logo and freeze or restart the computer. I also tried loading Linux from a seperate hard drive but it wouldn't load. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks !

It seems to be working thank you very much. Once windows is installed and i install the chipset does that mean i will be able to use the full 8gb or do i have to stick with 4gb ?

Yes, should be no problem, Win is quirky about DRAM sometimes it just won't load w/ more than one stick

Hmmm... For some reason I can only 4gb ddr3 instead of 8gb and my motherboard has a capacity of up to 32gb ddr3 :/  any suggestions ? If I use both sticks windows won't load so I added the second 4gb stick after windows has fully loaded but the ram is still showing only 4gb is running :(

Try resetting CMOS, then install the sticks in the proper slots, believe 1-3 from CPU and try
