i was thinking of upgrading cpu and motherboard then replacing the gtx 770 with 2 x gtx780 ti. i know i will have to upgrade the psu but i dont know if i have to go down the watercooling route for the gfx cards. any advice on how to upgrade for the amount of money i have will be very welcome :) thx in advance

Well the first thing I'd say is wait until the latest cards are announced. There are rumours circulating that the 880 may be more powerful that a 780 Ti but be cheaper. I must stress that these are rumours! However, it won't hurt to wait to see exactly how they stack up with the current line up of cards.

If you have your heart set on a 780 Ti SLI set=up then you'll definitely need a 850W+ PSU and the other thing to consider is getting reference cards with blower coolers. Aftermarket coolers dump their heat into your case, this affects the cooling of the cards. Reference blower coolers dump all their heat out of the back of the case making them better for SLI set-ups. This will obviously be irrelevant if you decide to water cool the cards, which if you can afford is the best option.

I made the assumption that the OP has a case but left it out. This is a good point!!!
