is dban a third party software

and is it a false rumor that hackers can still steal your information even doe you dban it

I have not used DBAN myself but from what I know it does not utilize any sort of network stack and would have no way to store or transmit the data that it supposedly steals while it erases said data.

Yes that is a false rumor. DBAN overwrites the contents of the hard disk. It does not use the ATA secure erase command (which obliterates the drive data without software interaction at all), but there are tools available that can do that.

1. DBAN itself does not 'steal' anything
2. DBAN is not guaranteed 100%, but it is as close as you can get in consumerspace.

-'not guaranteed 100%' = who knows what the NSA/FSB/GHQC/etc can do
Your normal 'hacker' cannot...
