Hi, I'm attempting to select a single graphics card for a mini-itx build. Right now the Radeon 280x and the GTX 760 are the cards I'm most interested in. The radeon has a much lower price for a better preformance than the 760, but I know that Geforce Cards offer better Physx in games. this is a feature I want for games like Borderlands 2. My question is, will physx even be used in future games? Is it processor based anyways? Does it even matter anymore whether I got a 280 or a 760 for Physx use? What is the state of this engine and should I bother putting out more money for it in hopes of finding newer games that still use it.

This topic is hard to get a non-biased answer, but it's easy to form your own opinion through the use of "PhysX ON vs OFF" videos on Youtube. Check some out and form your own opinion.

In terms of future PhysX gaming, its best to check out this list of current and upcoming games:

Recent games include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin's Creed IV, Borderlands 2, Batman: Arkham Origins, Metro Last Light, and Planetside 2. Upcoming games include the Witcher 3, Borderlands the Pre-Sequel, Metro Redux, Warface, and the new Unreal Tournament.

Yeah after seeing those videos.... and seeing that the game list included StarCitizen.... I think I have to go with PhysX... it looks cool as hell, especially in Borderlands 2 Thanks 17seconds. Is there anyway I could put you as best solution? I don't know if I can change it or not, your answer was easily the best way to help me choose.

I unselected the answer. You can pick whatever one you choose.

Yeah it looks great until you realise it cuts your framerate down to 1/3rd of what it was.

Like I said, its interesting once in awhile. PhysX is pretty cool and dramatic in Borderlands 2 (though you might find a 760 chugs a bit with PhysX on in BL2), but for every BL2 there's probably ten more games where PhysX support isn't much more than an extra sticker on the box.

I won't judge or disagree with the choice of the GTX 760, its very much a toss up in that price bracket. But I stick by what I said about the R9 285. At the very least, its existence might shake up the competitive environment and Nvidia may have to drop the price of the 760 a bit.

Yeah that 285 is interesting... This is difficult considering the closeness of the prices ontop of it all. Is there any quality difference between the two? On average I figured the 760 seems to be clocked higher than the 285... I've always heard that Nvidia cards were more reliable than AMD ones, but that is subject to model, driver version, The cooling manufacturer and a whole list of other variables.... Does anyone have any guidelines between these two specific cards in this bracket at this time?
