I don't know what happened but now it says I have windows ultimate and it's not a genuine copy. Where can I find my original product key so I can make windows genuine?

The only possible way is if you or someone else installed Windows Ultimate. Many shady computer repair techs or peole that sell computers do that, they re-install Windows but don't enter a valid code to activate it and after a while it starts to say it's not a valid code.

You can use the factory restore option on your system to get it back to factory defaults along with your original Windows. Make sure your files are backed up as that restore will wipe everything off the drive before it restores the factury setup.

Thank you so much for your answer. I had to call microsoft and they helped me with downloading windows 7 home premium again. I didn't realize I had to download all of my dell drivers again, which was most difficult because I couldn't get my laptop online. I had to connect my external hard drive to my desktop, download all of the dell drivers and save them in a folder on my desktop, then transfer to external hard drive. Then connect it to my laptop and download the drivers from there. What an ordeal. I still don't know how windows edition got changed.

My hard drive crashed and Best buy sent it off to have it fixed. But that was 4 months ago. I didn't start having problems with it until lately when a window popped up and said my windows ultimate was not a valid copy. I didn't even have widows ultimate. I had windows home premium. Microsoft was kind and helped me download a copy, but the help i needed after that, they tried to make me pay for. So i knew i was on my own . It took me 4 days to get everything done. My brain hurts. LOL

I think it's likely that the repair tech that worked on it just reinstalled Windows with whatever install disk he had handy. Sorry you had such a rough ride - next time you have issues with your OS, drivers, etc., call on your friends here. There's a whole crowd here that can help you skate through that stuff without breaking a sweat.

I would get your money back from BestBuy, installing an illegal copy of Windows, or at least one that is not registered, is not a good thing for a shop like them. If you go back to BestBuy and explain what happened and the trouble you had getting it back to normal, you may get a refund. If they say it's all on you, let them now that MS has an anti-piracy line and may want to know that a huge shop like BestBuy is using pirated copies of Windows when doing repairs.

You literally had to undo what they did to fix the issue, you may as well have kept the laptop and just installed the correct version of windows clean to begin with.
