HI,
I have had many sound problems with my pc,
- Cant use a micrpone
- all headphones and earphones dont play any sound o
- some play but really quietly
- speakers work
- sound only comes from one ear
- sound will swap from ear to ear with moving my headphone jack thing
My mobo is a Extreme4 with realtek sound or soemthing like that
I am looking to buy a ASUS XONAR DG 5.1 Channels PCI Interface Xonar DG Sound Card w/Lowprofile Bracket if i need one - Unless its a easy fix -

Solution
Manu, if you installed the realtek sound driver of the mobo cd.
Check if it installed the realtek sound manager app.
If it did, go to add remove software and un install the realtek audio app, not the driver it`s self for the Realtek audio.
Re boot the system and load back into windows.

Now use the windows sound manager, the speaker icon.
Right click on it and you should see playback, and recording devices.

If you click on play back devices. it will show a list of all the devices that can output audio.
Default should be Speakers HD audio device.
Now depending on the type of speakers or head phones you have. 2.1 5.1 or 7.1
Right click on speakers select configure speakers.
Set the setup to the type of speakers or headphones you have...

It could an onboard sound issue, have you tried both the front and the rear ports? Re-installing sound drivers? What model version Extreme4 is it?
A new sound card might fix it if it is a hardware problem.

Click apply.
It should work ok then.

With recording devices you do the same thing, to set how sensitive the mic is.
An important note here with mic is where it is connected.
If you have two front panel ports on the case for headset and mic.
The playback and record default device in windows sound manager must be set to default device.

This is because windows treats the back audio ports, and the two front ones provided for a Mic, headphones or a headphone and mic set as two devices so it the default audio playback and record must be selected each time when connecting from front audio 1.5mm ports to the back in windows sound manager ok.
