Hello All,
As said, i have an Optiplex 755 with 3.0 Ghz.

I am planning to go upgrade my GPU from Radeon 5450 to GT 730 V2 2GB GDDR5. I hope this should be a better upgrade. I cannot think anything beyond this because of PSU limitations.

I wanted to upgrade the whole CPU to the latest gen processors and MB's but i hate bulky boxes. Also, the Alienware X51's unavailability in our country made things worse for me. So planning to keep this CPU until my next upgrade.

In order to use this CPU with more power consuming Graphics, which Dell obviously doesn't recommend, I am planning to get rid of the DVD Rom in my PC, because I hardly use it. Also, it keeps consuming power, which i want to avoid.

All the Power saved by terminating :D  DVD rom from the bay would save ~ 15-30 Watts. This extra power will be available for GPU, at its Disposal.

Please comment. Will the GT 730 V2 2GB DDR5 be an overkill for an Optiplex 755?

I see from the images that Zotac version of 730 can easily fit into an Optiplex. Also, the max TDP for this Card is 35 Watts. Because of these factors, i sold for this card. I haven't seen the card physically. Also, i couldn't find any information on net for this weird Combination.

Please suggest, whether this should be a decent fit or could this setup kill my PSU or other components.

Well, the solution is not direct.

I am planning the following setup.

Get rid of DVD Rom. But use the DVD Drive slot, which fits it. Use a Driller & put few holes in the DVD slot/drive plate, on which the DVD is screwed.

If drilling holes sounds wierd to you, you can use any two sided tape and stick your HDD or SSD at either the top or bottom part of this DVD plate which is provided by Dell. and you can still proceed. I prefer screwing the drive to the DVD plate :D

Mount a Laptop HDD or SSD on this. Get rid of HDD Caddy.

Yes, now we have humongous amount of space for any Graphics card. PSU will still be a limiting factor.

I see the following Power consumption for this PC (In the worst case where all components are used 100%).
E8400 Dual core processor - 65 W max
Ram 3 sticks - 9 W max
Laptop HDD/SSD - 5 W Max
Mother board - 25 W Max
Wireless keyboard mouse, NIC, - 5 W

Total power consumption is now around 109 W
The PSU Capacity being 235 Watts, made by dell. Considering the old PSU and other components, i am targeting not to exceed 175 Watts.

The mighty Low profile GTX 750 Titan will fit comfortably in this cabinet. So, going for it.

Please comment if i am missing anything.
