PC freezes after 10 minutes caused by RAM

Hi all! I buy a new PC components:

i7 4770K
GA-Z97X SLI
GSkill Trident X 2400 2x4GB
Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC 4GB
Corsair HX750W

The computer froze playing Guild Wars 2 (is the game I've tried more) and usually occur within about 10 minutes of play or leaving idle in one place, (also happens to me about 10 minutes PC idle on the desktop) but I have noticed that if I disable the XMP profile leaving it at 1600 mhz memory does not occur, the computer does not freeze, but even with activated XMP profile 2400 mhz has passed memtest or bench AIDA64 without error, is apparently stable. I have not done any kind of OC the processor or the graphics and I test it in Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 and Windows 8.1 Pro x64 and the computer also freezes in Guild Wars 2 or idle in desktop. It's weird because isn't seems hardware problem, I have no blue screen, just freezes when the computer is in low activity and memory is at 2400 mhz.

Sorry for my bad english, Im Spanish.

Greetings

Solution

That's strange,i've got the same version and W8 pro and it works with me.

Was just giving other possibilities,if you like this cooler is that fine with me. ;)
Make sure it fits in your case.

It's possible that you'll need to overclock the cpu to maintain speeds like that for the ram.
If you're not ready for that now try to find the highest speed that still gives stability in the pc.Try 1866,after that 2133,could be that at these speeds you'll need to bump the ram's voltage too up to 1.65.So like 1866@1.55V (or 1.60V) or 2133@1.60could already be 1.65V.Timings need to be adjusted too.Maybe there are diffferent xmp settings for each speed, check that out too.Look at the manual for info about this.

The Difference isn't going to be huge so keeping the ram at 1600mhz for now is a possibilty too.

Thanks for answer. I try this: Active XMP and reduces System Memory Multiplier from 24 to 22 (2200 MHz) and all others options in Auto and 2 hours idle ingame and no have freezes at the moment. Had before DRAM:FSB Ratio 36:3 and now 11:1, can this be the reason? Or my memories sucks? Have 1.65V provided by XMP.

Keep on testing, but that seems fine. Your ram doesn't suck it needs to be supported by the cpu,and for the max speed i've read that you just need to get the speed of the cpu up to make it work and have settings for the ram right of course.Haven't used ram that speed so can't speak from experience.

Maybe do prime 95 in blend for some time to see if this give problems.Maybe try hyper pi 32 milion test too.Just to see if it stays stable.

Thanks again. I will continue testing it.
I'll wait a couple of days before I mark it as resolved if anyone has anything more to contribute ^^

Vic pretty well hit it on the head, not all 4770Ks can run 2400 sticks at stock settings, your options are a slight OC to the CPU - 4.2 is normally fine, or try raising the VTT voltage about + 0.07 (that's you MC (memory controller) voltage, or drop the DRAM freq - with the Tri's try 2133 at 9-10-10-30 and 1.6

Thanks for your suggestions

Cant see VTT in BIOS, may be this? http://i61.tinypic.com/fkry0w.jpg

I tested as shown in the image and got freeze.

That seems to be the right one.How does it go now? Did those stresstests?
Did you get Freezes with the settings you had @2200mhz?
How does it go at the settings that Tradesman gave?

I test it with 10 mins of Guild Wars 2 idle gameplay and get freeze in 12 mins aprox with picture option at +0.07

With memories at 2200 MHz doesn´t freezes.

I want to try at 4,2 OC, but for now I have a stock cooler :( although I have tried a time and do not make it as stable, get same freeze.

If you have no problems at these settings at all why not keep it that way?

And i mean prime95 and hyperpi don't give problems at this speed?
Maybe even memtest86+ for a few passes.

Just curious if there is way that will not freeze at 2400 MHz :p

I have not tested the stability tests for a long time, but at 2400 MHz always in 10-15 mins of Guild Wars 2 idle gameplay I got freeze and I've played several hours at 2200 MHz and no problem :D

You probably just need to overclock the cpu for that, get a good cooler,at least the hyper 212 evo,and try that.

Games aren't really stresstest so try the ones i already gave and see if it is really stable.

Sounds like you might need to get some new ram. I recommend Corsair Vengeance Blue. You get two cards of 4gb DDR3 ram and they work great. You can get them on amazon for a good price. take a look. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009M0TCBC/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B009M0TCBC&linkCode=as2&tag=redrocair-20&linkId=CNFQ2WVQGZI3OVBA

Or you could try out Corsair Vengeance Black. It had 8gb of ram on one card. Whatever suits your fancy. Take a look http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005T63BJM/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B005T63BJM&linkCode=as2&tag=redrocair-20&linkId=5AMO7SZWD3KDTDAA

I want to buy the Corsair H100i when I have money xD

I know, when I OC the processor with the new cooler I will pass several tests, but now with the stock cooler is very hot quickly.

You can still stress the ram with hyperpi and even prime should be doable with the stock cooler not overclockt. If prime get's too hot aat least try something like hyperpi and/or Wprime.

Just keep the ram @2200mhz if that's stable untill you get the cooler to overclock. That's still fast ram.

A H100i is a good choice, there are air coolers about as good like the NH-D14 for less.

Well, I try with Hyper PI, but I press Start and does nothing :??: I have W8.1 Pro x64 and Hyper PI 0.99b

BTW I prefer H100i because is not so big and is more esthetic
