Hey everyone,

Noooob here(!), in need of some advice surrounding a new budget video editing build...(NON Gaming). I realise the i7's are the better choice for editing, but these are not in the budget right now!

Spec so far;

i5 4690k
AsRock Fatal1ty Z97X KIller
8GB Vengeance Pro
MSI GT740 2GB
60GB Corsair LS SSD
1TB Seagate Hybrid SSHD

...and this is when I have a choice for PSU & Case

Either:

Corsair Carbide Spec-03 + 630w Be Quiet! Hybrid Modular

or

Fractal Design R4 + 650w Fractal Design Integra R2

Both combinations are the same price and would be complimented by a number of additional AKASA / Noctua case fans.

In your professional opinion, which would be the better choice for PSU stability and case cooling?

Thanks in advance to everyone!

I use PowerDirector for editing. It uses Hardware Acceleration - where the GPU assists the CPU.

Get a power supply from tiers 1, 2a or 2b of http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html
eg Antec HCG 520M PSU $78 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

An i5 4690k is $240

A Xeon E3-1220V3 is $205 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116907&cm_re=haswell_xeon-_-19-116-907-_-Product

Its spec - http://ark.intel.com/products/75052/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E3-1220-v3-8M-Cache-3_10-GHz - is the same as an i7.

You could then jump up to MSI R9 270X $190 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127761&cm_re=r9_270x-_-14-127-761-_-Product

For video...

Hi, and thanks for answering so quickly!

Re: the GPU. I kept this as basic as possible as from what I understand, the actual editing process- (not the rendering) is primarily undertaken by the CPU and RAM. I do not intend to use such things as AE, that would of course take advantage of the GPU, so thought that for the time being, the basic 2GB MSI would be okay???

I should have mentioned that the cases + psu's are not being sold as case 'with' psu's but are combinations I have the opportunity of buying together! I was just wondering if the Fractal is a better option than the carbide-03 or vice versa?

PSU's are a bit of a mystery to me!!

:O)

For video editing, try to get faster ram too eg 1866 - Ares $77 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231550
