I have a Buffalo Linkstation 220DE, I have my 4tb external Mybook harddrive. When I try to attach it via USB, it is not working. The linkstation cannot format it by itself (I get a fault when I try). I tried formatting the HDD in NTFS, FAT32, Removed all partitions but nothing worked. Anybody has a solution?

If your NAS works with 2TB drives, but not a 4TB drive, are you sure your NAS supports these large drive sizes. You can check the buffalo web site to see recommended drives. It's also possible a firmware update will fix the problem.

Updated: new firmware was released on 8/4/2014.
As you've tried to format it I'm assuming that there is no data on it that you wish to preserve.

I would try using a partition management program to delete all existing partitions from the drive, leaving it all as unallocated data. Then try connecting it to the NAS and formatting it.

Oops - sorry. On rereading your post I see that you have tried this. What partitioning scheme does the disk use - MBR or GPT? In the end you may need to raise this issue with Buffalo. (Note that if you use NTFS format you won't be able to write to the drive from the NAS, only read it.)

The nas is unable to format the disk it says.
