So I'm planning my first rig and I was pretty sold on the GTX 770. However, that build would cost me $1.8K, which is quite a bit of money. So I figured I might just go for a single R9 280 and later buy another one for Crossfiring. How would this compare? On Youtube I can only find compares on the 280X version, which is 50% more expensive than the 280.

ASUS Radeon R9 280 3GB DirectCUII: 1'790:-
MSI GeForce GTX 770 2GB TwinFrozr: 2'790:-
2 * ASUS Radeon R9 280 3GB DirectCUII: 3'580:-

So I'm only earning 1k Swedish crowns in the short run and I'm losing 790:- in the long run. This would be worth it if 2x 280's would outperform the 770, if not, it just feels stupid. If I'm to go all out saving mode, I might just as well get a AMD A10 7850K.

6'660:-
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
Intel Core i5 4690K
MSI GeForce GTX 770 2GB TwinFrozr
EVGA Supernova G1 750W, 80+ Gold (allows me to add another 770 in the future, if wanted)

2'755:-
ASRock FM2A88M Extreme4+
AMD A10 7850K
Corsair CS 450W 80+ Gold

While it's true, the A10 is quite alot worse, it's less than half the price and still lets me play the latest games at lower settings.

So what are people's thought on this? Would 2x R9 280's outperform a single GTX 770? Should I just fuck it all and go for a 7850K? Oh and sorry for the wall of text. (Oh x2) Prices are in Swedish crowns, 6.93:- is one USD. Thanks in advance!

A single R9 280 is ALMOST as powerful as A GTX770, and 2 of them would be much much better.

Forget the A10 CPU, its horrible for gaming.

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
Intel Core i5 4690K

Those 2 do not go together, you need an Intel Z97 socket 1150 board for that CPU.

Oh, I hadn't noticed. What makes them incompatible, the processor socket? I also didn't know the 280 was that good compared to the 770. If so, I'd say it's way more worth is, considering the price is $150 less.

The actual performance difference is very little, should be around 5-10%.

The board you were looking at is an AMD AM3+ socket board, so yes, completely incompatible.
Like I said, look for a decent Z97 board that supports SLI and Crossfire.

Just understood what you were saying, I feel stupid now. So it has to be BOTH Z97 and 1150? So what are the differances between Z97 and 990FX? Just compatibility? Been looking at Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 3, it doesn't have more than one PCI 16x tho. The ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 does however.

ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 is a good choice.

And the 990FX is an AMD chipset, to be used with AMD FX CPUs like the FX 8350.
