I just got a BSOD with the error message: "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". when i tried to recover from a backup i made it tells me that the D: drive can't be accessed and that i need to run a chkdsk /R on the drive. when i do that it tells me that there were no errors, however i do get an error saying "Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50", how can i fix this?

More about : inaccessible boot device error chkdsk work

Remove D: and see if it boots OK.

Check how full D:\ is.

the weird thing is that i only have 1 hard drive, i'm not sure why it's suddenly called D:

you have one drive with 2 logical partitions. The first partition is a reserved partition and generally will not have an assigned drive letter. The second partition will have the first default drive letter assigned and that is c:|

problem occurs when you run a program and your driver letters are automatically reassigned and your reserved partition becomes c:\ and your second partition becomes d:\
but you boot controller is looking for c:\windows as your windows directory and that is now on d:\windows

to fix you will need to remap the drive assignments back to the original values
(assign no driver letter for the reserved partition (or one higher than c:)  and set the second partition to have a drive letter assignment to c:

I am just thinking to a most likely cause, there can be other causes.

Make sure in bios your C:\ partition is set as first boot priority
