Did I kill my CPU?

Hi all,

My computer will not turn on after shutting off randomly.

The first time I attempted to overclock I followed the same settings as another person with the same Mobo. That did not work and I could not get past BIOS. After resetting the CMOS I was able to get pass BIOS and everything was working fine again.

The second time I attempted I just changed some settings in AI tweaker, but did not touch voltage or anything serious. I used CPU-Z and there was really no difference in GHZ (Nothing really changed)

So my computer was on (just idling no stress) it randomly shut off. It wouldn't power on after that, and It wouldn't power on even after 4 hours.

Hardware:

CPU: Intel i5 750 2.67 Ghz
Mobo: Asus P7p55-LX
Ram: Munchkin 8gb
Storage: 120Gb Munchkin SSD
GPU: Xfx R9 280x 3Gb
PSU: Seasonic 12D 750w

A green light is on in the motherboard as well..

I feel really stupid now, I really wanted to OC my cpu because it was bottlenecking in higher end games...I should of read up a little more.

Please help!!

thx

Saw no mention of an aftermarket cpu cooler, then again it's really really hard to fry a cpu nowdays. With that said, those safety systems are dependant on the motherboard and power supply. Your PSU looks like a really good quality unit so that leaves the mother board.

You're probably better off replacing the motherboard and cpu, the rest of your system seems okay, do get an aftermarket cooler though if you are interested in overclocking.

Its really hard to tell you what you actually killed, but the system would power on if the CPU is dead.
Atleast my system did power on when the cpu was dead but it didnt post anything it just made the beep noise

So It's probably a mobo issue, because it was not meant for overcloking in the first place.
