My Intel i3 Windows 7 Home Premium laptop is bugging up on me, When I boot it's just a black screen, no windows logo, nothing, just a black, blank screen, not even a flashing cursor. I rebooted several times and tried getting into safe mode (F8) and then tried F11 and even F9 etc but I can't get into any options or boot from my USB to perform a reinstall or repair. It's a HP Pavilion G6

I did some further testing, I plugged the laptop into another computer screen by VGA cable and it works fine, What does this mean? Also will add that when I turn the computer on the screens backlight does turn on and the wifi light over f12 key and caps lock button lights up

Any help is appreciated
Thanks

If you tried to purchase the item in person it would likely cost more than the computer did originally. (plus neither of those places carry those kind of replacement parts I'm sure best buys repair center could order you a new one. But, 300+ dollars because they would want to do the repair. Plus a similar refurbished computer would only cost you 230$ so that seems silly.

here you can get it...

First are you getting no screen at all? (no boot screen no nothing...)

If so read option A.

if you get a boot screen and it goes black when it tries to load windows read option B.

A. Well these are notorious for having overheating issues. Have you noticed the keyboard/laptop getting hot to the touch during use?

If so unfortunately this is a very bad issue, most times this is a matter of the Integrated GPU having overheated and failing. There are two possible repairs for this,
1. Replace motherboard - very expensive 60-200$ for the motherboard, plus paying someone to install it (we only charge 55$ for that kind of work, however most places charge 150-200$ to do a reinstall it would depend on pricing in your area)

2. Have the GPU Reflowed - This can be cheap or expensive very few places do it, as it requires special (very expensive) equipment.

However neither is something I would suggest a Novice attempt to do themselves.

B. You may have a corrupted Windows installation this can occur for two reasons either Virus's, or Hard drive Failure.

1. If it is simply viruses You can procure a Windows repair disk, (from a friend/online or the recovery disks that came with the computer), and attempt to do a windows repair/restore.

2. Failed hard drive will require purchasing a new hard drive as well as reinstalling the entire OS, and all drivers etc. (depending on the hard drive size this can be pretty cheap you can get a used hard drive off ebay for about 20$) however if you don't have the OS disk, you will most likely have to take it into someone. (I know we charge 55$ for OS installation however some companies charge much more so you may want to price shop if you need to do this.)

Ah you have, the one thing that seemed less likely a failing backlight/screen.

Well if you are sure the backlight is coming on then you will have to replace the entire screen to repair this.
Which could be $55 .. or more you would have to get your exact model number for us to help find you the cheapest (exact) replacement.

Alright, and yeah I'm sure the screen turns on because it goes from completely black when it's off to me turning it on and going bright etc, and yeah I plugged it into a desktop monitor and it works perfectly fine, and while on the laptop screen it doesn't show anything at all :S.... Is it possible that if I performed a fresh reinstall that it could fix the problem somehow?

Hey,

Alright, but it's sure it's the screen I guess then, I just reinstalled windows using the desktop monitor because it had to be done anyways and the problem persists as suspected, Is it difficult to install a new screen? This is the model: hp pavilion g6 1b33ca , preferably if I could buy it in person at Best Buy or Future Shop

Thanks

here you can get it online. 58$ with shipping

And well honestly if you had to buy it from a store they would still have to order it and you would have to wait 3-5 days anyways. there is really no other way to get these screens.

its not to difficult assuming you have or can get some small screwdrivers. Here's a video that shows how to do it.

If you decided to have a shop do it most shops charge upwards of 200$ for the reinstallation. (even we charge 100$) it takes a while but the overall difficulty is pretty minimal.

Hope this helps have a great day.
