hi i have a samsung np355v5c laptop with 6 gb ram and a 500gb hard drive, ive looked into buying ram but its very expensive by itself so i was thinking about buying faulty (screens not 100% faulty) laptops and taking the ram from them to upgrade, same with the hard drive as id like 1tb at least. the problem is i dont know if any other samsung series 3 models would be compatible. i know the batteries are and the chargers but thats as far as my knowledge goes.

Solution
Depends, do you want to plug the hard drive into the computer and windows just works, or are you ok withi installing windows from scratch from a cd/usb.

If you want it to just work then you would have to buy a hard drive from the exact same model.
If you are willing to manually install windows on the hard drive using a stock cd and then manually download and install the drivers from samsung then you can use any hard drive from any laptop made in the last 6 years.

As far as ram, this is more tricky. While RAM is also pretty universal you need to match the speed, timings, and voltage to that of your other chip. It would seem much easier to just buy a used stick of ram. With that said, unless doing video encoding or high memory use...

It would seem much easier to just buy a used stick of ram. With that said, unless doing video encoding or high memory use applications then you will notice no difference between 6 and 8 gb of ram.

i have a cd to install from and a usb stick i could download all the drivers on to install so i dont mind using a formatted hard drive, thats brilliant news for the hard drive thank you!

id really like around 16 gb ram as i frequently run out of memory with all the programs i use at once and the larger images i use with photoshop. would it help if i unscrewed my ram cover and wrote down the info on it for you?
