Was thinking of getting the I5-4670k but my motherboard doesn't support 4th gen processors & i don't want upgrade my mobo so i was deciding wether to go for the i7 3770k or the I5 3570k i know the i7 would be better performance wise but what is better value for money?

Solution
the I5-3750k is still an awesome CPU, only slightly slower than 4th Gen, yet will easily overclock more (in general). It will not struggle with any current games.

Overclocking - up to you, is 25% performance improvement worth ~$30?
There is only a minor increase from 3rd gen Ivy Bridge to 4th Gen Haswell in performance, the bigger change was in reduced wattage which is not a concern for a gaming desktop. It is not worth the $$ to upgrade boards just to get a 4th gen cpu.

As Eximo said we would need to know what you currently have to tell you what is a good upgrade. For gaming only an i7 will not give you any performance increase, for video encoding/rendering, 3d modeling or engineering programs yes an i7 will be worth the money.

My motherboard/motherboard i'm thinking of getting don't support 4th gen processors only 2nd/3rd gen processors i have an I5 2310 which i think is slow & out dated correct it is a LGA1155 port i think the 3570k will be a lot quicker correct me if i'm wrong & yes it is just solely for gaming & internet purposes.

I know the K is overclock do u really think the overclock is really beneficial? I have checked that it is compatible on my current mobo & the Asus one i intend on getting i also have a plenty powerful enough PSU at 700W it is solely for gaming & internet purposes

How benneficial overclocking is depends on the user. You have to get a better cooler, and tweak with your motherboard voltages to find how high you can take it and be stable and not overheat it. If that at all sounds like more trouble then it is worth then no it is not worth it.

You may have to do a BIOS update in order for the 3rd gen cpu to work, in the cpu compatibility list it will say what bios version it needsto be on (or better) for it to work, then just restart into bios and check your version.

I'm new to PC gaming i've had a pc for years but recently couldn't cope with the bog standard intel enteregrated Graphics i elected for the MSI R7 260x graphics card as i heard it was great value for money you've been a great help after all the experience you have had would u say stick with my current processor get the 3570 with no overclock or 3570k overclock?

If you don't want to move on from LGA1155, and like everyone else, I don't think it's worth it, then why not consider a 2500K or 2600K? Ivy Bridge does have a lower TDP which makes it more energy-efficient, but Sandy Bridge is widely regarded as the better overclocker. Plus, you can probably pick up either a 2500K or 2600K for much less than an Ivy Bridge equivalent.
