im about to upgrade my pc i was thinking of
intel i5 4690k (180 pound)

asus rog maximus ranger vii (130 pound)

G.skill Trident x 8gb (2x4gb) 2400mhz dual channel kit (70 pound)

im using it with my old harddrive + my nividia 460gtx and a antec cp850 PSU.

im ofcourse trying to look for the best within this budget id rather go down in price then up so let the tips come :) the processor i hope to keep but the motherboard is a small mystery to me since theres so many in the pricerange of 0-160pound.

If you're not going to buy a video card, then go for the MSI motherboard and the rest of the specs as mentioned. No need to change the RAM or anything then. Should work fine.

If you have any other questions, let me know. Good luck.

The ASUS ROG is a bit much for the rest of your specs. Buy something cheaper like the MSI Z97 Gaming 3 motherboard. That will be perfect for the rest of your specs. I'm assuming you're also going to be buying a new GPU? It seems a little out of place with your new specs.

As far as I know, the Z97 series is pretty good. Anyhow, like he said, you might want to consider lowering things a little bit and getting a new GPU, the 460 is out of date in my opinion. Let me know what you decide.

EDIT: I doubt you need a 2400 MHz RAM kit. I heard it runs a little unstable and it doesn't make that much difference. You'll notice about 1-3 FPS difference which isn't worth it at all in my opinion at least. Considering that you might have to save whatever money you can save to be able to get a better GPU, I recommend getting a G. Skill RipjawsX 8 GB(2x4) 1600 MHz CL9 kit. It's 80 dollars on Newegg, which is a little less than 50 pounds. Not sure where you're buying it from, though.

thx for the respond, well im using novatech.co.uk to buy it from (unless i find a cheaper website ofcourse)

im willing to stay with my gtx 460 for just now cuz of the tight budget and because that actually runs good enough still, (my motherboard is shite cuz its a temporary one so thats why i plan in upgrading the mobo to a decent intel with a decent processor, i use AMD now but plan to go intel)

anyways, i done some looking around and ill accept the good advice about the z97.
im wondering tho wich z97 to get

msi z97 gaming 5 or the z97 intel chipset?

the memmory might be a good call to downgrade altho i like having a bit higher then 1600mhz for streaming in the near future and since the 2400 mhz 8gb was so cheap compared to the other memmory (dunno how unstable it is tho)

so atm ill be at the dillema
intel i 5 4670k (instead of the 4690k)
msi z97 gaming 5 OR intels z97 chipset
g skill ripjaws trident x 8gb 2400mhz (willing to downgrade but rather not go for the 1600mhz and trying to keep it gskill or corsair)
