Can anyone diagnose the likely problem and tell me whether it is fixable?

IMac is pretty old (around 2006) but works quite well until recent issues.

Kernel Panics set in maybe 5 minutes after booting up, then became sooner and sooner and sooner, until now it won't even load the desktop before going into a panic.

I removed the non-factory RAM. Didn't help matters.

Is it a replaceable part?

UPDATE - Opened it and cleaned it up. Isn't the fans and can no longer be inner dust. I put it back together and got the same kernel panics at the same stage of bootup.

UPDATE - I also removed the hard drive and tested it and it works fine.

For the parts that are left that could be the culprit, do they still even sell them for these models of Imac?

Sounds like a problem with the main logic board, or possibly a hard disk error. But, then, it could be the power supply or even overheating because of build up of dust or a failed fan.

I think you need to have it looked at by someone familiar with Mac hardware (if you think it is worth the cost).

Thanks for the reply.

I think it has to be the mother/logic board.

I opened it up, removed all dust, and also removed and tested the hard drive and it's fine.

Given the logic board prices in the secondary market, I guess it's not worth it to try to restore this unit... It seems like it will cost 1/3 of a brand new iMac...

I suppose just keep the hard drive and the RAM...?
