Hey guys, I'm going to be getting the white PS4 when its out and I'm looking to upgrade to probably a 1TB HDD. No I don't want SSHD or SSD. I'm just looking for a space upgrade. All the threads I've found are from about a year ago when it first came out. Now that there's a little more experience around I was hoping to find out what drives are good and will work and what drives aren't going to.

Id prefer to keep things simple, 5400 RPM, 1TB space nothing fancy

Edit: Heres what I'm thinking

or

Solution
7200RPM drives are in general faster than 5400RPM, get it if possible. There should be a negligible difference in heat output between a 5400 and 7200RPM drive.

Ok cool, Ive just seen some stuff about Seagate being unreliable and whatnot so I'm just looking for a good drive that I dont have to worry about failing

The Backblaze numbers are heavily flawed if thats what your referring too in your unease in Seagate. The methodology was unscientific in every way, the acquisition of the drives incredibly dubious (they were buying 2nd hand external drives from the general public) and using them in a way never intended for the drives.

For the question, to my understanding any 2.5" drive will work.
Cache size doesnt make a massive difference to performance, but generally you want as large a one as you can get.

I suggest completely avoiding any kind of "Green" or power saving drive, notoriously slow and are not intended for use as an OS drive (which it will be in your situation). I suggest getting a performance drive like the WD Black, Seagate Barracuda or an SSHD like the Momentus already mentioned.

Any info on 7200 rpm vs 5400? I know ps4 comes with 5400 so I'd rather not have any extra heat generation since my setup is rather tight in space.
