I have windows 8.1, and I've been trying to perform a system reset, but when I try to insert my flash drive with the recovery media, it says it's invalid. I talked to Microsoft and they said I have to use the OEM disk I built the computer with as the recovery media, only problem: I can't find the disk. Is there anyway that I can get a replacement disk without spending 100 dollars or could I get the ISO off some third party site and then use my product key?

Solution

Yea looks like they don't have any ISO downloads. But try this...
1) what PC do you have

2) Did the PC orginally come with Windows 8 or Windows 8.1? If it came with 8 then you have to install 8 FIRST and then install all the windows Updates, and then install 8.1 from the app store, and then update again to get the Update 1.

And for the most part Windows has all the Windows for download in ISO format. Not sure about the OEM's ones but any OEM disk should work. I've used Dell disk on HP's and Toshiba's.

I built the pc using windows 8 OEM, but I can't find my OEM disk, which is why I'm wondering if there's a way I can get around not having the disk since Microsoft doesn't offer an ISO for OEM on their website.

Ok first off was it OEM or System Builder OEM? They don't sell Windows 8/8.1 as a OEM and Retail anymore. So I would first make sure its a TRUE OEM vs the System Builder OEM.

If it is a TRUE OEM disk then I can help out if you can't find an ISO. I have a ton of Dell Disk that I can make an ISO from and upload it to my site and let you download. The good news is you will know if it works off the bat or not since it will ask for the key before you can install the OS. This way you don't install it and be like DAMN IT! IT WON"T TAKE THE KEY! XD I know that feeling all to well with Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008/R2.
