Is building a decent gaming PC around $850 plausible?

Hey,

I'm considering building a custom PC for the purpose of gaming. I don't play overly intense games, and I was wondering if it would be possible to build a decent gaming PC for around $850 dollars that can run games such as Counter Strike: Global Offensive and Rust with ease at decent graphics settings? If so, what parts should I look at buying? I'm a complete newbie to building PC's and never built one before, but I know what parts are in them such as graphics card, motherboard, Power Supply,

Thanks for your help :)

Nice to see a fellow Aussie. Found this from one of Tom's threads last year and it will be great for CS: GO.

A build with the Core i5-4690K would crush the other build, especially when OCed.

12$ over budget but well worth it.

Would this dramatically increase the FPS or graphical performance? And if I am to get the 760 over the 750, how much more am I looking at paying?

I'm not sure if I would bank on the overclocking abilities of the H81 mobos personally since Intel could release a update that disables overclocking on the mobos whenever they feel like it (they did this in the past when some manufacturers unlocked some of the non-overclocking mobos).

If you don't care about overclocking then I would grab a i5 4460 and get rid of the cpu cooler. Then you could use the savings to get a r9 270 which performs about 10-15% better (guesstimate)

It would increase your FPS by about 5-10 and offer faster speeds in image/video rendering.

Sorry, but that was a little too advanced for me ahahah... I get the gist of what your saying about overclocking, but I'm not sure about what to get now...

Basically, right now manufacturers are making some H81 chipset motherboards that allow your to overclock the CPU. However, this is typically not what intel (who makes the H81 chips which are then put onto motherboards various companies make) wants. Intel wants the Z87/Z97 motherboards to be the only unlocked (overclocking) motherboards, which also tend to be the most expensive. So if intel feels like it they can release an update that disables the overclocking features that asus/asrock/gigabyte enabled which would suck if you banked on the fact that you could overclock on a cheap B81 mobo.

If you don't have any intention of overclocking then a B81 or H97 motherboard would suit you fine but you could save some money by switching the i5 4690k (unlocked for OC) to an i5 4460 or 4590 (locked, no OC). Hope I clarified a bit there.

For a non-overclocking build, I came up with this.

So, is the Radeon R9 270 better than a GeForce GTX 760Ti? Just want to make sure I get the best graphics I can for the price.
