If you be gaming, go with the 6 core rather than a dual core. But overall in terms if price, performance the AMD 6 Core (I am talking about the FX-6300) is the best.

I'd suggest you go for the i3, assuming it's from the Haswell line and the AMD processor is an FX-6300. That said, my actual recommendation is to save your money, skip the i3 and go straight to an i5.

The FX-6300 isn't an easy processor to recommend for these reasons.

1. It technically isn't a six-core processor; whilst it does have six cores, only three of them can be used at any one time.
2. The AM3+ socket has a very limited upgrade path. The latest processor that AMD released for that socket was over a year ago.
3. The TDP is considerably higher.
4. The per-core performance is weak.

In its favour, the AMD can be overclocked which can help improve performance, but then you need to buy a good cooler and suitable motherboard.

Believe me, I'm not an Intel fanboy, but if you can afford to go down that route then you really should.
