I just purchased an XPS 8700 but I want to upgrade my graphics cards for gaming.

It came with a Nvidia GeForce GT 720 1GB DDR3. It doesn't say on the spec sheet what the power supply is and I am currently away from my computer so I can't check right now (I can later if I need to).

I know my way around a computer, but this will be the first time I've replaced a graphics card so I'm a bit of a novice in this area.

Can any one recommend a new graphics card for this computer that won't leave me too bankrupt? :D

1) it's gtx 750 ti.
2) if your psu is somehow >460w - gtx 760.

From what I can gather, your computer has a PCI-E x16 1.0 slot.

Most modern Graphics Cards will not run at full speed in anything less than a PCI-E 2.0 slot.

It's argued, however, that performance loss is in the negligible range of 5%-10%, so it's your choice ultimately.

The GTX 750 Ti is a robust card with a small length, guaranteeing that it will fit inside your case.

The Radeon R9 270X is a similar card from AMD's reference board, although it has a recommended PSU of 500w.

These are both strong cards. Assuming you have better than a PCI-E x16 1.0 slot, you can choose a Graphics Card without worry about the slot bottlenecking the card's performance. Apart from that (And the most advanced GPUs requiring powerful PSUs) your system has ample specifications to support any modern GPU.

As far as installing a Graphics Card is concerned, it's a relatively simple process. Here's a guide:
