Hi,

A friend of mine is selling PC parts, some of his current gaming build and some mining cards.

I can get a R9 280x and A good enough Corsair PSU for 190 euros.
Or for 190 euros a R9 290, without PSU. That would mean I would have to buy a PSU apart from the 190 euros If I go with the 290.

Would it be worth it to spend an extra minimum of 50 euros to go with the 290?

I am planning on playing AC Unity, Batman arkham knight, GTA V, The Division and Dragon Age inquisition at 1080p.

Thanks!

Both cards are very good, and i think you should decide - do you need the extra power and must run everything in ultra at 1080p? Then a 290 probably would be better for you. If you would be fine with some games running in ultra without AA, you could go for the 280x and a good quality powersupply.

One thing is sure though - Never cheap out on the powersupply, it could end up being the thing that kills your components, making them run unstable, or set your house on fire(in extreme situations).

This is a link to a list of great powersupplies, xfx/seasonic makes them very well.
I would recommend at least 550w depending on the rest of your system, as the 290 and 280x are...

If you're playing at 1080p, the 280X should be enough. But the real question is what series is that PSU? Corsair PSUs are either of very good quality, or very bad. Can you tell me the exact model of PSU please?

I would recommend at least 550w depending on the rest of your system, as the 290 and 280x are powerhungry cards. Get 650w if possible.

Conclusion:
If buying the better card, makes you have to have a bad powersupply, just get the 280x.
If you can still get a powersupply of good quality, get the 290 if you think its worth it.

always get the best that you can afford today...
r9 290 almost as fast 290x, noticeable faster than 280x, ..and it's , well, more future proof, rather than 280x..

But if you tight on budget, 280x will serve you well..:)

$67 PSU..?
SeaSonic S12II 520 Bronze is an excellent psu for that price..

You should know the exact model. If it's a 600w bronze then it's likely a Corsair CX, and the CX series is very bad in terms of quality

cx series actually is not that bad..
it's still can deliver good quality output power at maximum load..

the problem is, durability..chinesse caps etc etc etc..
quality is ok, but durability? unfortunately not..well, get another psu then...

But don't quality and durability fall in the same category? I wouldn't call something unreliable to be of quality
