Hello everybody
I wish to use my320 gigs ps3 as a media server for convenient streaming to other devices, I want to access all my tv shows from any device on the network.
First of all can I install linux on a ps3 running the latest version of its native os??
Can freeNAS be installed on ps3, then install plex? CanI install Linux and then install plex on PS3?
Any other alternatives??
Thanks in advance

Short answer...unless you didn't update the firmware, then no.

However, if all you want is a file server, you can probably build one for fairly cheap.

PS3 firmware cryptography was compromised quite some time ago. Custom firmware exists now to bring back 3rd party OS.

Probably it is easier to build a cheap linux box for this purpose though... use much less power than a PS3 too.

I know it is a lot more then the PS3 you already own but one option for cheap media server is an asus chromebox. There is several different linux distros you can put on it and then install plex or even xbmc
