Hello. I've changed to a HDD which has Windows 7 on it but it keeps restarting before reaching desktop. Cannot enter safe mode either. However a hdd with XP loads just fine. MOBO is k9n sli, 4 gigs of ram, geforce 8600 gt. I've got important data so clean install is not an option.
I haven't use that computer for ages, maybe it's because drivers.
Windows Repair doesn't recognise Windows 7. On bootup I can see win7 logo but after a few seconds it restarts itself

Solution
the windows 7 harddrive will not boot up because is does not have the right drivers for the motherboard installed.

since the computer will boot up with windows xp can you put the drive with windows 7 in the computer as a slave drive and pull all you info off it? any way you slice it if you want windows 7 on the old k9n board you will have to do a fresh install.

If that hdd w/ Win 7 came from another system, , it's almost a guarantee it will not boot, different drivers being the major culprit.
Also, it it's from an OEM computer (HP, dell, etc,) it is tied to the original motherboard.

I formatted the hard drive containing windows 7, but it still crashes. Tried safe mode it worked fine 2 or 3 times. Now even safe mode shuts the pc down as someone pressed the buttton, no msg or warning
