I have recently seen that not all computers shutdown to a 'full' off ACPI state and some will by default hibernate, or hybrid shutdown, when the Shut Down button is clicked.

Does Windows XP by default shutdown to a soft-off S5 (G2) state, or S4, or something else?

Thanks

Thanks for the link, I couldn't find on that page if it said that XP had a default shutdown state of S5 or S4.

I've read that Windows 8 does a Hybrid Shut Down (S4) by default, (part hibernate) so it boots faster, rather than a non-hibernate non-sleep state like S5.

Do older Windows operating systems do this at all?

Thanks
